About this event

''I worry about being caught out, drying up or saying something stupid.” This is one response from a survey of women in academia engaging in media training reported in the Guardian. Expertise and knowledge are never the problem, and so in this intimate face-to-face session, we will demystify what it means to be an academic expert in broadcast media. Along with sharing media experiences and challenging assumptions, this session will help to build a sense of security in taking up media opportunities.

The session will be led by a broadcast producer and journalist. By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Gained an insight into the expectations and needs of broadcast media producers and journalists with regard to academic experts
  • Challenged their own assumptions about engaging in broadcast media
  • Built confidence to take up opportunities to share their expertise in broadcast media

Presenter information:

Stephanie Power is a freelance broadcast producer and journalist, based in Liverpool, working mainly for BBC Radio 4.
